Controversies

Ben Stokes, aged 23, was chastised for throwing a no-ball that lost West Indies player Jermaine Blackwood his wicket in a Test match in 2015

The wicket would have provided England a significant advantage in the match with WI playing at 133/4, but Stokes got his foot well beyond the line, which led to the official declaring it a no-ball.

Ben Stokes’ reaction to Harsha Bhogle’s opinions on the English media following indignation at Deepti Sharma running Charlotte Dean at the non-striker’s end last year proved divisive.

Stokes disputed that English fans and the media were challenging the decision.

He also mentioned the criticism and insults he received following the overthrow, which won New Zealand the 2019 World Cup, and wondered how culture could be incorporated into a cricketing opinion.
