INTERNATIONAL CAREER JOURNEY

Lee won his first-class International debut for Australia versus Pakistan on January 9, 2000, at the Gabba in Brisbane, as part of the Carlton and United Breweries Series. He became Australia’s 140th one-day international cricketer. He made his first ODI half-century, 51* without out, over South Africa in February 2002.

In a single day of international visitors, he was classified as the most successful ODI bowler by the ICC in January 2006, and he has been listed in the top 10 ODI spinners since the beginning of 2003. His spinning strike rate of over 30 places him among the most incisive bowlers in this format. He has scored a single-day International hat trick from the 2003 World Cup versus Kenya. Lee was the initial Australian and only the fourth bowler in the recent history of the World Cup to accomplish this accomplishment.

Lee chosen to join the Australian a squad on the continent of South Africa a month following earning his first-class debut. He took two wickets in that match, but fractures of stress in his back from his prior injury reopened, and Lee had to wear a back support for some time.

By the late 1990s, there were appeals for Lee to join the national team. Lee’s debut impressed coach Steve Waugh, who had been playing alongside him over New South Wales, and he campaigned for his selection in the national side. He selected in the final 14 for the 1999 Test series against Pakistan but did not make the starting 11. He was the twelfth man by the time the Test match series against India began. Lee did, however, make his first Test appearance for Australia against the visiting Indians in December 1999, becoming the country’s 383rd Test cricketer.
