Jacques Henry Kallis has been a South African cricketer’s trainer and regular international player. Career
Jacques played cricket at Wynberg Boys’ High School. In 2009, Wynberg honored Kallis by renaming their major cricket oval after him. In July 1993, he was selected to represent South Africa’s U-17 team against Scotland’s U-19 team.
Henry made his debut in first-class cricket for Western Province B in 1993/94, at the age of 18. Kallis, then 18, performed professional cricket in England for Old Edwardians in Solihull in 1994, where the coaching faculty noticed the possibility for him to become a first-class all-rounder. The following summer, he played for Netherfield in Kendal, hitting 791 runs at an average of 98.87 in 14 matches.
His initial test appearance came against England in Durban from December 14 to 18, 1995, however, he battled with the bat in his first three games. Kallis made his World Cup debut in 1996 in Pakistan, although he did not have many opportunities to shine. His breakthrough came in 1997 when he scored 61 against Pakistan, and two matches later, he saved a tie for South Africa with a battling century against Australia at the Cricket Ground of Melbourne.
Kallis was appointed head coach of the Kolkata Knight Riders in October 2015, after Trevor Bayliss departed to become head coach of the England cricket team in June 2015. Kallis was also KKR’s batting consultant during the 2015 Indian cricket season.
Jacques was named the South African national cricket team’s batting consultant in December 2019. As of late 2020, he was a batting assistant for the United Kingdom national cricket team.
