Buttler appeared for Somerset’s youth teams in the under-13, under-15, and under-17 levels. He got his senior club cricket career for Cheddar before switching to Glastonbury in the 2006 season, at 15, where he took three catches and 15 runs as a wicket-keeper. Later that season, he made his Somerset Second XI debut, scoring 71 in the second innings and grabbing six catches in a three-day encounter versus Nottinghamshire Second XI. He concluded the 2006 season with the highest batting average at King’s College, scoring 447 runs at a 49.66 average.
