Paul completed his early schooling at The Lir Academy in Dublin, Ireland, then at Maynooth Post Primary School in the Republic of Ireland. He played Gaelic football for Kildare as an under-21, was a junior player, and belonged to the GAA club in Maynooth. His jaw injury forced him to give up his sports career.
